Friday Foto: Bukchon Hanok Village

Seoul, Korea

In my excitement for our upcoming trip to Korea, I wanted to share a picture from our trip last fall.  After spending the morning exploring Gyeongbukgung Palace and The Story of King Sejong at Gwanghwamun Square, we visited Bukchon Hanok Village.  After learning that it is a preserved neighborhood of traditional houses ("hanoks" in Korean) with 600 years of history that dates back to the Joseon Dynasty, we wanted to see what a traditional village looked like since Seoul seems like such a modern city.  When you're at the top of the hill, it's an amazing view of mazes of giwa (tiled roof), wood and stone blocks with "the city" as the backdrop.  It's a beautiful village; and we're so happy we made the trip because it made us feel like we were back in time.
